The Matter of Imaginaries

Today I want to ramble on an idea that is a big part of one of the three fanfiction stories I have posted, titled Disney's Wondrous Secrets.

Some ideas don't work or they could work but I just need to go a different route with them, and so on. But this is a matter concerning Imaginaries and how they fit in a magical world like the Disney Realm (as I often call it).

I chose to blog this because it's more complex than I previously thought and it took some digging into. First, what is an Imaginary?

Imaginaries are of course made in the imaginations of very young children, usually around the age of two or three. They're often called imaginary friends or figments in the child's life who they pretend with and play with. They come in countless shapes and sizes, of animal and object. This though barely lasts long and the fun ends about a year later. Though, that is not always the case. Some Imaginaries stay hidden as mere memories, left to wander unless they are recalled once more. Most of the time, they fade off like distant memories and that would usually be the end for them.

In the enchanted realms though that stays unseen to the modern world (the Disney Realm here), these pieces of innocence effect these realms, as small as they may be. Just like the faith and trust children naturally have, Imaginaries hold that magic inside them naturally. This manifests in different ways in certain abilities in an Imaginary, such as gift of flight, magical objects, enchanted songs, etc. but these abilities aren't very powerful depending on the lengths a child would go with an imaginary friend. How often they are used and played with plays a huge part. If interaction is very limited then this magic becomes more and more suppressed over time and thus becomes more potent. When freed from the child's willed suppression over them, their magic grows 100 times more powerful than before, depending on how long they have wandered.

In the case of Bing Bong, he had wandered with high hopes for about 9 years in his creator's mind, I found out. Those nine years and all that false hope kept him suppressed that entire time and the magic he never really knew he had began to get so limited that he could barely do much except walk around with two objects and one magical power; a red wagon with cardboard wings, a song to make it fly (which grew very weak), and a stretchy neverending bag he wore over his shoulder. That was it.

Okay, I love Inside Out. Pixar's, just like with Disney, had always been inspirational to me because of the people of Pixar. They place such beautiful meanings and morals into their movies. I happen to love a lot of what Pixar dishes out, but my tops are the Toy Stories, Up, Brave and Inside Out.

The point of Inside Out is that you cannot stay a child forever. Life is like a rollercoaster. It can be scary and then it could be fleeting... So I got this idea about what happens to that child likeness when it just vanishes....

It turns out that (for the sake of this story line) Bing Bong simply did not vanish from Riley's memory but rather... his very memory and being was rescued, or taken, gradually, so that he could help Riley one last time. Even though he and Joy thought he was dying, he was actually transported somewhere else by a spell cast by the Blue Fairy who was overlooking and ensuring the safety of his creator. She granted the wishes of her worried parents which made the girl realize that she was making a huge mistake by running away.

He was brought, mind, body and all, into the Fairy's world where she remained as his personal guide. Since Riley had forgotten him, for the most part, he slowly but surely forgot her which was an injury caused by the poor girl's struggle. Though this would not be forever.

His selfless choice settled his fate in this place, and got a chance to be something even greater, along the side of another imaginary like him; the Figment of Imagination. That will be elaborated on later. You can imagine (no pun intended) what could develop which is very exciting for me!

So that is a little look into my thought process of this idea and next, I will dive into ~

Hunchback of Notre Dame, the possible relationship between Quasimodo and Minister Frollo in my other major story Awakening in the Spring.
